Watch: Heavy garda presence prevents second night of rioting on O'Connell St
Gardai have said there were no “significant overnight incidents” in Dublin city centre as fears of a second night of rioting failed to materialise. Last night, there were hundreds of officers deployed at flashpoints across the city centre with a particularly heavy visible presence on O’Connell Street. It is believed there were a small number of arrests for public order as a group attempted to reignite Thursday night’s chaotic scenes. Video footage shot on O’Connell Street showed gardai confronting and detaining a small number of people. A garda spokesman told the Sunday World that “a policing plan remains in place” for the weekend. A total of 100 extra gardaí are being deployed for specific public order duty in Dublin city centre.
