Eight people have been arrested after Spanish cops discovered a stash of 600 kilos of ‘Bart Simpson’ cocaine near Valencia.

The Civil Guard found the drugs hidden in a container in an industrial estate in the town Quart de Poblet.

When cops moved in, one of the suspects lost a finger when he used a ladder to try to escape.

Eight members of a criminal gang involved in international drug trafficking have been arrested while €4,000 in cash they were carrying at that time, as well as a firearm, were also seized.

The operation was carried out as part of an international project GDIN (Global Drug International Network), led by the Civil Guard and financed by the European Commission.

The aim is the global dismantling of criminal organisations through international cooperation and exchange of information with the countries in the network.

The investigation began after Central American countries warned that a possible shipment of a large quantity of narcotic substances hidden in a container that was being transported on a merchant ship to Valencia.

Once the container was in Spanish territory, specialised agents carried out close control and surveillance of the suspect carrier.

After individuals were detected extract the shipment in Quart de Poblet, cops moved in.

“Hours later and with the coordinated action of several units of the Civil Guard, eight members of the criminal organisation were arrested, as well as the intervention of 600 kilograms of cocaine that were hidden in the container,” the Las Provincias news site reports.

“One of the detainees suffered the amputation of a finger when trying to flee from the civil guards and became trapped on one of the stairs he used to try to escape.

Those arrested are between 24 and 49 years of age and were charged with the crimes of drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organisation.

Earlier this month, police in the Netherlands seized 1,000 ecstasy pills emblazoned with a Nazi Eagle symbol following a traffic stop in the town of Kerkrade.

The driver of the car was arrested after police found what has been described a large amount of hard and soft drugs on the passenger seat.

Officers mounting a check point at Museumplein in Kerkrade noticed a car that had initially ignored a stop sign.

When they managed to force the driver to stop, it has been reported, it turned out that the man did not have a valid driver's license with him.

“There was a large amount of hard and soft drugs on the passenger seat of the car,” www.crimesite.nl reports. “It involved 1,000 ecstasy pills, 500 grams of weed and 100 grams of cocaine.

The driver who was reportedly “under the influence of drugs” was immediately arrested and taken to the police station.

The ecstasy pills which bore the Nazi Eagle and Swastika symbols were seized alongside the other drugs.
